Accurate Location-Tracking in Wi-Fi Networks

Ekahau Positioning Engine™ (EPE) software enables location tracking in any standard Wi-Fi network (802.11 a/b/g). Unlike competing technologies, that require expensive special infrastructure on site, EPE is a pure software-only solution that works with any off-the-shelf Wi-Fi access point. No proprietary infrastructure needed!

With the Positioning Engine, it is easy to location-enable Wi-Fi laptops, PDAs, tablet PCs, barcode scanners, hospital telemetry devices, and wireless VOIP phones. In addition, with Ekahau Wi-Fi location tags (coming soon), any mobile equipment, asset, or person can be tagged and located anywhere within the Wi-Fi network coverage with precise accuracy. With Ekahau's Wi-Fi RTLS (Real Time Locating System), the critical corporate resources, people, equipment, and assets, will be always available at the right place at the right time.

Innovative Technology - for Indoor and Outdoor Positioning

Ekahau's patented positioning technology is a result of over 10 years of extensive research, and features the most precise indoor location-tracking accuracy available on the market today. The high precision combined with multi-floor tracking support, enables wide variety of next generation people and asset tracking applications both indoors and outdoors - where ever there is Wi-Fi coverage. EPE supports both a zone based tracking, to report the device location by zone name, and also a continuous real-time positioning of precise (x, y, floor, heading, speed, etc.) location coordinates.

The Widest Wi-Fi Adapter and Device Support

EPE has been exhaustively tested with the leading Wi-Fi equipment, network adapters, laptops, and PDAs. EPE has the widest device support available compared to any other software-based location system - Call the Sales Department for Supported Devices and Adapters. Ekahau Client is fully IEEE 802.11 a/b/g compliant and runs in the background while still leveraging the Wi-Fi data and voice capabilities for other applications.

• Supports all standard 802.11a/b/g Wi-Fi® access points.
   
• Supports more than 25 leading Wi-Fi adapters from Agere, Avaya, Buffalo, Cisco, D-Link, Enterasys, IBM, Nortel Networks, Orinoco, Proxim, and other manufacturers.
• Quick InstallShield® installation and setup for fast rollouts, reduced installation costs, and virtually no disruptions to current Wi-Fi operations.
   
• Provides the x, y, floor, speed, heading, area name, map name, and other location-based information for each tracked device.
• Optional MD5-encrypted username & password authentication between the Positioning Engine and applications.
• Location updates available every 1 or 5 seconds via Java SDK or Ekahau YAX™ protocol for C/C++ and other applications.
• Supported (tracked) client devices include Windows® XP/2000, Pocket PC 2002/2003, Palm Tungsten, and Ekahau Wi-Fi TAG.
• The Positioning Engine server runs on Windows XP/2000 (as a service) or on Unix.
• Contains Ekahau's award-winning, patented Bayesian positioning algorithms with up to 1 meter (3½ ft) average accuracy.
   
• No relational database required - the Positioning Engine stores the Positioning Model created with Ekahau Manager.
   
• Software only - no special hardware needed.
